Work underway on £3 million Hirwaun medical centre
Construction of the new Hirwaun medical centre started this month, with completion expected in May 2012. The existing Health Centre at Brecon Road will be relocated to the brand new 14,000 sq ft, two-storey centre, which will provide modern healthcare facilities for the local community.
The medical centre is being developed by MedicX, a leading specialist investor and developer of healthcare properties, before being let to the Cwm Taf Health Board which is responsible for the provision of healthcare services in Merthyr Tydfil and Rhondda Cynon Taff Local Authority areas. The new £3 million centre will provide GP and community health services, and incorporate an onsite pharmacy.
Tony Coke, Regional Director of MedicX commented: “We are delighted to be developing this state of the art medical centre for Cwm Taf Health Board, which will provide a host of excellent and much needed services to benefit the local community.”
Allison Williams, Chief Executive of Cwm Taf Health Board said: “We are very excited about the new health centre and the fantastic facilities that it will offer. This is a provision that local people desperately need and it’s exciting to see construction beginning. We look forward to moving in next year and being able to share these wonderful facilities with the community.”
Paul Western, Primary Care Development of Cwm Taf Health Board concludes with Allison Williams stating: “This is a major step to achieving a long held goal for Cym Taf Health Board, patients and the community in Hirwaun. I feel confident that the facilities and structure that MedicX is providing will contribute significantly to ensuring the long-term provision of effective healthcare services for the area.”
