Dr Honey Bun and Partners

NHS Wales

Following an extensive site search in conjunction with Abergele Surgery, MedicX purchased a prominent site on the entrance to North Wales Business Park, adjacent to Abergele Town centre. Town planning issues were successfully overcome and following consultation with the Design Commission for Wales the building was designed to make the most of the views of Gwrych Castle and the North Wales coastline. The result is a stunning 1455 sq metre building with 65 parking spaces.

Following the inspiration of the lead GP Dr Jeremy Honeybun a feature stained glass wall was commissioned which provides a unique personality to the building. The building has a sustainable design that has achieved an NHS excellent NEAT rating. It utilises local materials and incorporates natural stack ventilation and benefits from an adjacent bus stop promoting public transportation.

The completed building accommodates 13 GP consulting rooms, a minor operations and treatment suite, phlebotomy and multi-use room. The premises staff also benefit from a large open plan administration area, conference facilities and a roof top garden. The patients are able to enjoy the light and airy waiting area with short travel distances to the principal consulting rooms. A private interview room adjacent to reception has also been incorporated for any confidential matters patients may wish to discuss with practice staff.

The practice team named the new premises Gwrych Medical Centre which was officially opened in February 2010 by Edwina Hart, Welsh Minister for Health and Darren Millar the local Assembly Minister.
